Private Sector - 'Intervention Examples'
SSD specialise in service sector development and transformation ... details from a few of our interventions can be seen below.
#1.
As an ‘Insourcing specialist’, we helped transform the position for a major consultant to move from a
contract beset with operational problems, high turnovers of staff and an operating deficit of 3% to enable
stability, all issues resolved, a sensible structure and a 20% (EBITDA) within a year.
#2
As an advisor to one of the largest and most respected super-market chains in the country we enabled
their programmes and change team to triple their capacity to manage and coordinate change.
This result was delivered for less than 1/10th of the projected time and cost. As a result of our intervention, the use of middleware and simple dashboards, we created a new information portal.
From this, management teams in 120 stores across the country were provided better access to the information they were desperate for, allowing them to more efficiently and effectively respond to seasonal demands, Point of Sale developments and the introduction of 'Self-Check-out' technology.
#3
Working for a major UK waste contractor, we enabled the start up of an ambitious waste and recycling
contract for two authorities, establishing their ICT linkages and their new call centre, on time to budget,
which has led those two councils to feature in the three top recycling councils in the country. The CC
design being based on resolving issues, not dealing with a call every 90 seconds, as a result, issues reduced
and profits increased.
#4
We enabled a medium sized contractor to gain and then better use ISO 9001 accreditation, helping with
an expansion plan to gain more prestigious work, leading to running a major contract for the Ministry of
Defence, including some on site redesigns to greatly improve the operational effectiveness of the final
scheme. The firm’s turnover doubled in a year, exceeding all expectations, with a better portfolio of work,
achieving greater profit margin from less rework.
#5
During a major structural refurbishment of a multi-story car park, a worse than expected structural defect
was detected which may have led to the whole car park needing to be demolished. Neither the council
structural engineer nor a top ranked engineer for a major consultancy could see any route other than
demolition. SSD utilised some basic engineering principles together with lateral thinking to design the
solution over-night. The professional engineers were both astonished with the effectiveness and elegance
of the designed solution. This avoided a £7M saving of asset, not to mention the face-saving within the
£700K project.
#6
Working in partnership with several housing contractors, we were able to assist with improvements in the
quality and the efficiency of building repairs and refurbishments, increasing their capacity by nearly 20%,
while reducing their charges by 14%, such that their profit margins trebled and their cash-flow moved from
a significant deficit to positive in a matter of weeks.
#7
A software house had decided to no longer support a major database for housing management, which was
going to lead to three major contract losses, which were seen as loss makers. Within two months, the basic
programming issues were resolved, their customers were delighted with their improved functionalities,
with the decision to retain those systems for the future. A later supplier / customer workshop turned out
to be the most positive one that they ever ran.
